Hopefully, this will become an experiment in collaborative fiction and role playing, once I get it up and moving, and get a few people involved.
Traveler's societies are groups that work to keep the roads between cities safe. Some of them are official, funded by governments and guilds. Some on the other hand are mercenary, charging people a toll to escort them over a stretch of road. The latter are usually regular merc companies - or branches thereof - who are not otherwise engaged. A few of those have taken to attacking travelers that refuse their services, both to extract a profit and to show the next group just how dangerous the roads really are.
